Hermosa Beach Real Estate

Named after the Spanish word for beautiful, it doesn’t take long for visitors to see how accurate this moniker is. The 1.3-square-mile city boasts an average of 325 days of sunshine every year, making it ideal for homeowners who enjoy the many outdoor amenities that the city has to offer. These include two miles of beach, a pier, three parks, numerous recreational facilities, and two walking paths, including the Strand. This shoreline walkway nestles travelers between the majestic Pacific Ocean and luxury beachfront homes as they walk south into Redondo Beach or north into Manhattan Beach.

Hermosa was considered a luxury destination even before its incorporation in 1907. It was a premier resort town for the region’s workforce, as the Santa Fe, Los Angeles Pacific and Los Angeles & Redondo railways ran right through Hermosa. The city initially attracted mostly day and weekend travelers. However, it slowly built up a following and, later, a population, once people were inspired to trade in their inland residences for a piece of the beach. Hermosa’s railside location and legions of fans allowed the city to develop significantly in the 1920s, bringing about factories, mills and plants – not to mention more tourists.

While the factories may be gone and the railroad tracks paved over in favor of a gorgeous, tree-lined walking trail, Hermosa Beach has managed to keep the attention of homeowners who appreciate this peaceful, clean and fun-loving city. Many of these attributes can be accredited to Hermosa’s low crime rate, which, according to City-Date.com, was 22% lower than the national average in 2007. This family friendly atmosphere isn’t bolstered by a low crime rate, but also by the sense of community that both residents and council members alike have supported.

Hermosa Beach provides a baseball diamond, skate park, roller hockey rink, basketball and tennis courts and even a Lawn Bowling Club for its residents. Those looking for something a little more extreme than lawn bowling can engage in a number of thrilling beach activities, including paddleboarding, surfing and beach volleyball, a staple of the Hermosa Beach community.

Arts and entertainment enthusiasts can bask in Hermosa’s vibrant culture, which is best experienced at a number of events, including the Fiesta Hermosa arts and crafts festival, Hermosa Beach Film Festival, Shakespeare by the Sea, Taste at the Beach, Hermosa Beach Art Walk and Summer Concert Series. Year-round entertainment can be found at the Hermosa

WHERE THERE IS NO VISION THE PEOPLE PERISH

Beach Playhouse, Hermosa Beach Historical Museum, the Comedy & Magic Club and the Lighthouse Café, which is a West Coast jazz fixture. Hermosa’s pier area also boasts a good mix of services and restaurants, which range from beachside take-outs to four-star dining fixtures.

The city also contains a good mix of housing options. Though architectural styles vary house to house, many properties have at least a partial ocean view and almost every home is within walking distance of the beach.

Hermosa Beach is also known for its stellar elementary schools, Hermosa View Elementary, which is kindergarten through second grade, and Hermosa Valley Elementary, which is third grade through eighth grade. These schools have been recognized by the U.S. Department of Education for their superior testing scores in reading and math.
